Baby, Baby, Ain't It True I'm Immortal When I'm With You. by [livejournal.com profile] redbrunja.

Sarah Conner blinked slowly, the painkillers dulling her mind. She shifted, pulling against the soft, padded cuffs that bound both wrists to a hospital bed and her head cleared in an unpleasant rush of adrenaline.

She remembered arguing with Derek about directions, the familar and sickening shriek of tearing metal, loud drunken shouting and the taste of rage in her mouth.

It hadn't been a good morning.

Happy J-Day, everyone! ♥

Alternate Meanings by [personal profile] lithiumdoll.

A waitress brings the coffee and iced water with a friendly smile that even reaches her eyes; John guesses she’s new or she’s had practice. He smiles back, ducks his head and murmurs his thanks and, when she’s gone, brings his mug up to his mouth.

“They may not have discovered the body yet,” Cameron says conversationally, just as he starts to swallow.

He keeps swallowing, ruthlessly clamping down on the urge to cough and pretty sure she did that on purpose.

If she’s exploring the concept of physical humour – or maybe just sadism – he really doesn’t want to know. “Not here. Later.”

She nods and falls silent again.

When Sarah comes back from the restroom, her expression is so carefully blank that John automatically begins to steel himself against whatever’s coming next. Possibilities rush forward; too many to process. He puts his mug down carefully before he breaks it. “What?”

untitled Galentine's Day ficlet by [personal profile] chaila.

"Last week with the metal was too close," Sarah says. "We're not splitting up. It's not safe."

"What's not safe is none of us getting any sleep," Jesse argues, eyeing James, who's now sitting on the the couch with a sleepy Savannah on his lap.

"What?" he asks innocently.

"Agent Sunshine over here snores like he's sawing logs," Jesse says.

Jesse Flores & Derek Reese by [livejournal.com profile] beccatoria.

The chief difference here is perspective. Calculation. I don't think Derek's morals are actually all that different to Jesse's I just think she's a strategist and he's not.

As It Stands by [archiveofourown.org profile] zeldadestry.

He sketches his mom while she’s asleep on the couch. She’s holding onto a pillow, cradling it in her arms, against her chest, and he swallows past the tightness in his throat. He remembers a story someone told him once, about how Jesus’s mother held her son after he’d been brought down from the cross, how she hugged his corpse and cried because she remembered holding him as a baby. His mother always knew who John would be; even when she was pregnant she never had a chance to imagine other scenarios for who he might become, what he might do with his life, with his skills. All she ever had is what she has now, sore muscles, a battered body, perpetual tension and terror, and never, ever, a good night’s sleep. She hates for anyone to catch her napping during the day, but she’d be useless, otherwise. It’s probably the best sleep she ever gets.

To Learn The Games You Play by [archiveofourown.org profile] wanderlustlover.

Allison’s problem is never that she doesn’t remember. It’s burning under her tongue, in her veins and the furious pounding of her heart, even when it’s the very first thing she tells the monsters. Her captors. The Terminators. Skynet.

She’s going to be tortured.

Starved. Treated like an animal.

She’s going to wish she had died.

Normal by [archiveofourown.org profile] shell.

She told herself she didn't have time to mourn her mother, her father, her life, and it turned out to be true. She focused on the now, on diapers and formula and clothes. Thanks to Sarah, she had a place to stay and money for the first six months, maybe nine or ten if she were careful. So she was careful.

One day she woke up and Sydney was six weeks old, past the newest newborn stage. No longer a neonate, according to her books, but still a baby. Sydney seemed to grow and change every single day, from smiling to giggling to sitting up. Lauren made lists whenever she could get her sister to take a nap, took the bus to Goodwill so often they greeted her by name and set aside clothes and toys. Crawling was going to happen next; she needed to childproof their one-room apartment as soon as possible. She could do it. She was doing it. It was going to be fine.

And then Sydney got sick.

When John Henry saw that he was finished speaking, he picked up two action figures, one in each hand.

"What do you think was the lesson of that story, John Henry?"

"That you should help people in trouble?"

"Not just that. The man who was robbed was Jewish, and Samaritans were considered their enemies. Jesus is saying that to be a good person, you should help anyone who needs it, no matter how different they are from you."

"Everyone is different from me," said John Henry, placid as always.

Why “Born to Run” was awesome by [personal profile] chaila.

He doesn’t go because he doesn’t trust Sarah, and that matters. When John leaves, it's not because he's lost faith in her; it's because he thinks she's leaving him. And in many ways, she is. She’s human. She’s his mom. That’s the way it works. Though I maintain that Sarah is eight feet tall and indestructible, she’s not Cameron. Sarah hurts, Sarah bleeds, Sarah makes mistakes, Sarah is inefficient. Sarah will die. In the back half of season 2, literally everyone John loves is dying around him, for him or because of him, and he can't do anything about it. But with Cameron, I think he feels like he can do something, like she might not have to be really gone. She is someone who protects him, but someone who does not die for him (the reason, perhaps, he surrounds himself with machines in the future).
